There’s No “I” in Team: Why Seeing Multiple Vets Matters

That age old saying is something we hear throughout our lives in a multitude of situations. From being in grade school gym class, little league, and group projects, it’s a part of our childhood years to help us understand the benefit of working together.

As we grow older and enter college, the working world, and adulthood, we often hear about teamwork in the office – whatever your career – and it’s an integral part of success for so many companies, from small to large. The same holds true for the team at the Animal Hospital of Sussex County: we’re a team.

We are a team of veterinarians, vet techs, vet assistants, office staff, caretakers, and animal lovers. We work together to bring the best care to your animals, and we feel it’s absolutely a core part of who we are and what we stand for. Some practices boast that having one veterinarian, the same vet for every visit, is critical, but we beg to differ and here’s why.

Sure, while seeing the same vet every time has its benefits: getting to know you and your pet, understanding their nuances, life story, and behaviors are all a plus; seeing multiple vets in the same practice offers that and even more. If you prefer to see the same vet, all you have to do is request that vet and we’ll coordinate schedules to fit you in as soon as we can. But if the veterinarian of your preference is out sick, on leave, or *gasp* away on vacation (yes, we try to have time off too!), we have other veterinarians on staff that can help you without having to wait for your regular vet to return. Thanks to state of the art technology, we have information on all of your pets stored in our secure computer system, so that whomever is assisting you can read your pets history and be up to speed to be able to help you, whatever the issue.

The benefits go beyond being able to see a veterinarian regardless of illness or travel, but it also allows our staff to travel to further their education, attend conferences, and stay up to date on the latest technology and research.

What about second opinions, you ask? We can help with that too. Whether it’s a tough diagnosis, a myriad of confusing symptoms, or just an ailment with multiple accepted options, by having several vets in the same office to consult with can help us determine the best plan of action for you and your pet. And if you want or need even more than we have to offer, we’re always happy to work with you to refer you to other veterinarians that can help.

And it goes even further than just our team of vets. Our veterinary staff, from office team to techs and assistants, and even our marketing staff all work together to ensure everything we do is of the highest of standards so that you can be confident in the care your pet is getting. More important to us than being your only vet, is being your team of vets and veterinary staff, because we understand how your pets are family. And that is why we always say, the difference is in the caring.
